Building for the Future

A big theme of this February was preparing for the future. First of all, I am staying on staff through at least the 2020-2021 school year. I am very excited about this! I am so grateful I got to be a part of staff for these last few months. I know I have said it time after time, but I love getting to work in ministry. Looking to the future, I am going to continue to work at UTD, but my role is going to shift some to become more administrative. I will be in charge of taking care of UTD in terms of working with the small group leaders and their resources, working with the campus on rooms, and things of that sort. Luckily, I will still get to do ministry as well, which will allow me to continue to get to see the growth and life change in the students on our campus. Thank you again to everyone who has partnered with me to allow me to do this so far. I am so very grateful to you all.

The next big part of building for the future, was choosing students to go to SICM. The Student Institute of Campus Ministry is a yearly leadership training conference in May, that campuses around the US send students to, to train them for ministry leadership. This is are main mode of training for our potential small group leaders. All of the small group leaders spend most of the Fall thinking about who is high potential, leading up to January/February when we make decisions on who to invite. This year, my small group invited 3 guys, which is really great! I have been very impressed with the growth as leaders these guys (Xamin, Jack, and Spencer) have shown and I am very excited for them to be trained to use the skills they have been growing in. Unfortunately Spencer won't be able to make it because of a prior commitment,  but Xamin and Jack are going, and have been going through some fundraising of their own to cover the $850 trip. Xamin is a transfer student from Collin College, whose parents are not Christian. He found faith while in High School, and joined our ministry while at Collin. This year he has shown great leadership as an example to our small group in trusting in God and in vulnerability. Since his parents aren't Christian, has has had to raise just about all of the funds to be able to afford the trip this May. At UTD, we held a fundraiser to support him and another student, and our people showed up hugely for them. For the two of them, we raised over $1100 which based on need, almost completely covers the cost for both students. It was huge to see God move in that way to help this guy pursue leadership for Him.

Another thing we do to help students cover the cost of this huge trip, is a fundraiser we call Showcase. It is a showcase of musical and artistic talent from our communities. This year, I helped out by making one of the videos that played between musical performances, I aided with stage transitions, and helped with queuing the performers as to when to take the stage. I am going to be fully in charge of those last two jobs next year, so I was very glad to get the chance to run through it once before being thrown into the fire. Showcase over all went very well. The musical acts were fantastic, and everything went so smoothly. We don't have the total numbers for earnings yet after our expenses, but I am certain that it will be a huge blessing to all of our students on our different campuses. Thank you to all of you who came and who continue to support me and our campuses. I will put pictures from the show below. All of these photos, except for the first one are credited to Sean Do.
